We are not aware of N20bn payment to Igboho – DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) Friday said it has not been informed about the N20 billion damages awarded against it by a High Court in Ibadan, over its operatives’ invasion of Sunday Igboho’s house on July 1.

The spokesperson of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, revealed this while reacting to the development on Friday.

According to him, “The court possibly has not informed us. So, my official response is that I don’t have any comments”, Afunanya said.

First News had reported that a High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday ordered the DSS to pay Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, N20 billion for his properties vandalised on July 1.

Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order while delivering judgment in the suit filed by Igboho against the DSS, where he demanded N500 billion as damages.

According to the court, the raid carried out was not supported by the law. It also criticised the DSS for “arbitrary aggression and prejudices”.
